Don’t be put off by the name, you won’t turn into a vampire!
A vampire facial is the new skin care craze and celebrities are boasting about the results.
The treatment is a combination of mircrodermabrasion followed by the application of PRP (platelet-rich plasma). The PRP is derived from the serum portion of the blood, which contains platelets. The platelets contain high levels of growth factors, which, when applied to the skin, will stimulate cell turnover.
In a PRP treatment, platelet rich plasma is extracted and injected in the deep dermis to promote faster and effective regeneration and rejuvenation. It promotes collagen growth and regenerates the tissues under the skin, making the skin smoother and firmer and at the same time helps in softening the wrinkles, correcting the skin tone and overall texture. Resulting in healthier, younger and glowing skin.
To extract the platelet rich plasma, a small amount of blood is drawn, don’t worry its a small needle and doesn’t hurt, it is then taken through the process of centrifuging to separate the white and red blood cells from the platelet and plasma. After the centrifuge process, the separated plasma contains a high density of platelets. Which is what is needed for the rejuvenation.
I am not going to lie to you the process is painful, after the first time I didn’t plan on going back but once I seen the result I couldn’t wait for my next appointment. Immediately after the treatment my face was red and swollen but the next day it was back to normal, the second time I did experience some bruising but thats normal so just incase make sure you don’t have any big events coming up.
Results show 3 weeks after the treatment and the next treatment is advised 3 to 6 months apart.
PRP is also used for treatment of hair loss and hair thinning. The process and science is the same, only the application area and outcome is different. In PRP for hair, the objective it to regenerate, strengthen the hair follicles to simulate hair growth and health.
Traditionally PRP was only used for orthopedic treatments, but today it is widely being used for cosmetic and aesthetic treatments.
